network sponsors & friends
For over thirty years, theaterhaus berlin has been a production centre and networking platform for independent performing arts in Berlin. Every year, more than 300 productions evolve within our rooms and reach the stages of Berlin and the world. In close collaboration with artists, production houses, venues and cultural-political players of the city, theaterhaus berlin is committed to strengthening the structures, networks and visibility of Berlin’s independent scene.
We are currently involved in the following networks:
Förderband e.V. Kulturinitiative Berlin
Förderband e.V. Kulturinitiative Berlin is the major managing entity of the Kulturinitiative Förderband gGmbH, which operates theaterhaus berlin with its respective locations in Mitte and Schöneweide. Förderband e.V. was founded in former East Berlin in 1989 to enable and support independent cultural work. The association develops its own artistic, cultural and media projects and offers professional advice and support to external projects. Current and past projects of Förderband e.V. include:
“Berlin für Blinde” (“Berlin for the Blind”) – the first Berlin guide in audio format; “Berliner Spielplan Audiodeskription” (“Berliner Performance Schedule Audio Description”) – a pilot project to establish audio descriptions of the performance schedules at Berlin theatres for blind/visually impaired people; “Berlin erzählen” (“To Tell the Stories of Berlin”) – a project that conveys views, opinions and perspectives of people with disabilities regarding our living environment; “Tanz zwischen den Welten” (“Dancing between Worlds”) – an educational alliance for the support of hearing-impaired children; “Wasserspeicher” (“Water Tower”) – Förderband e.V. has been coordinating the use of the former water reservoir in Prenzlauer Berg since 1994. The tower’s reservoir facilities are available for art-related projects by independent artists and groups.
Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH
Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH promotes art and culture by creating a sustainable infrastructure of spaces for artistic work. To do so, the nonprofit association works closely with stakeholders in the real-estate industry, the independent scene and the state government. Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH was founded in 2020 as a subsidiary of the public-law nonprofit Stiftung für Kulturelle Weiterbildung und Kulturberatung (“Foundation for Cultural Education and Cultural Consulting”) in order to manage and advance the operations of Berlin’s workspace program and the program itself. Within the scope of the workspace program, funded spaces are allocated to professional, freelance artists residing in Berlin. Since 2021, Kulturraum Berlin has regularly announced available spaces that professional artists can apply for on the website Kultur Räume Berlin.
LAFT Berlin – State Association of Independent Performing Arts Berlin e.V.
LAFT Berlin – Berlin State Association for the Independent Performing Arts e.V. represents the interests of Berlin’s professional independent performing artists in regard to politicians and the public. Koalition der Freien Szene
Berlin’s Koalition der Freien Szene [“Independent Art Coalition”] was founded in March 2012 to draw attention to the blatant misguided developments in Berlin’s cultural budget. Berlin’s current cultural policies endanger the very foundations of the city’s much-vaunted and internationally celebrated creative scene. In cooperation with a variety of networks, initiatives, groups and individuals, the Independent Art Coalition collects and develops concepts for a new cultural policy. The Coalition is an open platform that meets regularly to draft and publicize cultural-policy demands, develop concepts, and organize campaigns. All artists and culturally interested persons are invited to join; information regarding dates and activities can be found via the newsletter and the Facebook group.
SchöneVibes Collective
The SchöneVibes Kollektiv is a neighbourhood initiative from Schöneweide, which is committed to networking people from the neighbourhood to promote environmental awareness, education and social and cultural mediation.
